National BBQ Cup is proud to announce the beneficiaries for this year's event is Bald Ridge Lodge and Forsyth County Community Connection.  Both are non-profit organizations making a difference in Forsyth County, GA with their services and work. Keep reading to learn more about them.

Bald Ridge Lodge was born from the hearts of  two Forsyth County citizens, The Honorable Judge Charlie Smith and Mr. Buddy Lang. During a meeting of their Rotary Club it was brought to their attention that no agency existed in Forsyth County to serve the needs of boys who are homeless, abused, neglected, or at-risk of ending up in jail. Judge Smith and Buddy decided then that this was unacceptable made it their mission to see that a home was made for these boys. Judge Smith and Buddy made the community aware of the need and the community responded.
 
Bald Ridge Lodge's doors opened to its first resident in 2008. Through the amazing dedication and generocity of Judge Smith, Buddy Lang, and countless others, their dream had become a reality. Bald Ridge Lodge is a nonprofit state licensed child caring institution serving up to 12 boys ages 12 to 17 who have been removed from their home by the Department of Family and Children Services or Forsyth County Juvenile Court. The mission of Bald Ridge Lodge is to provide a safe haven and counseling in a therapeutic environment for boys who are in need of protection, direction and supervision, in a manner that nurtures the child, strengthens family relationships and allows the community to care for their own.

The Forsyth County Community Connection is a private, non-profit organization associated with the Georgia Family Connection Partnership.

  • We CONNECT volunteers, families in need, and agencies to foster local decision making.
  • We CREATE healthy pathways for families through collaboration in the community.
  • We COORDINATE resources to maximize outcomes for families and the community.
  • We CELEBRATE community success.

The mission of the Forsyth County Community is to connect the needs of vulnerable children and families to agencies and volunteers. When we create and coordinate pathways to solutions, we celebrate community success. We envision our county as a place where every family is healthy, engaged, and self-sufficient.

The Forsyth County Community Connection creates opportunities for people to volunteer, learn and lead in their community. We strive to provide volunteers with a high-quality experience that fuels further action, and we envision a day when everyone is inspired and equipped to be the change they wish to see in the world.
